Activity Role Overview
In this activity, I represented TGIA’s Bioinformatics Department and introduced the role of bioinformatics engineers in the biomedical industry to students of Institute of Pharmacology, College of Medicine, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. The sharing focused on how bioinformatics transforms sequencing data into meaningful biological and clinical information through secondary analysis, tertiary analysis, data organization, visualization, and biological interpretation. I also discussed the intersection between bioinformatics, pharmacology, and drug-related applications, including clinical genomics, pharmacogenomics, cancer genomics, and drug development. The goal was to help students understand that bioinformatics is not only about programming or running pipelines, but also about connecting biological questions, data analysis, and medical applications.
